Juneteenth falls on a Friday this year, a federal holiday carrying full weight, and Father’s Day closes things out Sunday. Henry County has something to say about both. Juneteenth 2026
June 19, 1865. That’s the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally heard what had already been signed into law two and a half years earlier. The Emancipation Proclamation was real, the war was over, and freedom was no longer a promise being held back. One hundred and sixty-one years later, Juneteenth is a federal holiday, and Henry County is showing up for it with some of the most meaningful programming this weekend has to offer. Take it in.

VyStar Amphitheater at The Bridge • Friday, June 19
The City of Stockbridge brings Grammy Award-winning artist Common to VyStar Amphitheater for a free concert under the sky. Common has spent decades at the intersection of hip-hop, poetry, and social consciousness. He wrote “Glory,” won an Academy Award, earned a Grammy, and has long been one of the most thoughtful voices in the game. And he’s performing free in your county. Hosted by Big Tigger and Francesca Amiker, with opening performances from Jevon Dewand and Trap Starz. Gates open at 6. Show starts at 8. Tickets are free but must be picked up in person at the Stockbridge Box Office starting at 3 PM — first come, first served, one per person. Get there early.

A full afternoon honoring Juneteenth in the heart of Hampton. Live music, food vendors, cultural programming, and community gathering from midday through early evening. Hampton shows out every year for this one.
Local artists display and sell their work throughout the day at the Hampton Train Depot. Paintings, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and handmade goods. Running alongside the main Juneteenth celebration — do both. Free to attend.
Sign up to perform or pull up a seat and listen. Poetry, spoken word, music, whatever you’ve been holding. Juneteenth Open Mic Night at Awaken Drip is a celebration of voice, creativity, and community. Hampton’s most welcoming coffee lounge, free all night.
Juneteenth carries into Saturday with Stonecrest’s fifth annual celebration at the Southeast Athletic Complex. Live music, food, local vendors, and cultural programming. The Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance will be on-site, connecting the evening to the deeper story of Juneteenth and local Black history. A meaningful way to extend the weekend’s observance.

This is the one Henry County has been waiting on. The $55 million Henry County Aquatic Center and Waterpark opens Saturday, and it is unlike anything this county has had before. A 30-foot slide tower. A lazy river. A wave rider. A rooftop bar with views across the county. A zero-depth kiddie pool. A 50-meter Olympic competition pool. An ADA-accessible therapeutic pool for fitness and aquatic therapy. Stadium seating, food trucks, and modern amenities throughout. The parade steps off Saturday on Auburn Avenue, travels through the heart of Atlanta, and ends at the park where the full festival runs June 19-21. Disruption BBQ and 15th Street Pizza collaborated on a scratch-made smoked pastrami sandwich rooted in something personal — 15th Street owner Patrick and his late father had a tradition, and this sandwich is a tribute to it. House-brined pastrami, marble rye, house-made sauerkraut. Old-school deli meets Texas-style BBQ craftsmanship. Limited run, so don’t sleep on it.
